Hi there. In this video I'm going to tell you about charms. I'll show you several examples and explain the different styles. So just what is a charm? Well, charms are traditionally just these small, little decorative pieces, usually some sort of metal, although they don't have to be, they can be glass or crystal, and they are used to dangle, traditionally, from a bracelet. Queen Victoria actually made charm bracelets quite popular. In fact, there were charm bracelets that had special meaning, like for mourning that had locks of hair of the deceased and little miniature portraits. This is a charm bracelet I have with special charms that were given to me by my family. But here's a charm bracelet that I put together, again just of fun charms that all were something personally meaningful. These days, there's a slightly different version of charms by some companies that have these that are more like beads with holes through them, but they still can have personal meaning, and again, they're usually metal and crystal. And here is a selection of the more traditional style of charms by House of Gems. You can see anything goes. There's just simple stamped crosses. There's slightly fancier crosses. Simple shapes, like a star or a filigree. These are really cute to maybe put in combination with hearts or keys. Or you have stamped brass pieces with a decorative finish. These are a little large. We're kind of blurring the line here between pendants and charms, but they can certainly be charms. Hearts or three-dimensional things like these little shoes are quite fun. Or pictorial like this one with the two turtle doves. Or quite complex and pictorial like this one that is called Alice, and it has Alice in Wonderland, and the Cheshire Cat, and several other elements relating to that Alice in Wonderland story. Feathers. And the one thing that these all have in common is they have a hanging loop so that you can hang them from whatever piece of jewelry you want to, whether it's a bracelet, or a necklace, or earrings. Charms are a great option for something decorative, and making it personalized.
